Visibility Range of Large Underwater Objects Viewed from Air through Rough Sea Surface

Levin I.M., Dolin L.S., Radomyslskaya T.M.

A problem of computing the visibility of a rather large submerged object in case of visual observation ‎from the given height over the sea surface is considered. The developed algorithm requires a minimal ob-‎servation conditions data set: the object parameters, the solar angle, the horizontal visual range, the wind ‎velocity, and the Secchi depth. A procedure of computing the visibility range, taking into account surface ‎roughness influence, is given. Some examples of visibility range computations for objects of minimal size ‎‎10 and 20 m under given meteorological conditions are given as well.‎
